My computer was down for over 18 hours yesterday beause of a virus. I had to miss a days work because of this . I was on the phone with norton for at least 12 hours they were tring hard to try to solve this virus, however after many attemps they were not successful and referred me to my computer maker dell. Dell told me the only way to fix this problem was to reinstall everything which meant I had to back of all my files. If you have as many files as I do you know this can take quite alot of time. The moral of the story is to help prevent this please donot open any I mean any files with out first finding out if they are safe. One way to do this is if you have norton is to download to your desktop but do not open, then right click on the folder or file click on norton and than scan now this will help tell you if the folder or file is safe to open, and should help prevent any virues from getting on to your computer. I am going to past on the tips that I was told to help you maximize and help protect your computer.
Tips to Improve the performance of the computer .
Steps to be followed once a week
1. Click on start and click on run. Type temp and click on ok. Temp folder will come up. Click on Edit and click on select all. Delete all the files using the delete key on your keyboard.
2. Click on start and click on run. Type prefetch and click on ok. Prefetch folder will come up. Click on Edit and click on select all. Delete all the files using the delete key on your keyboard.
3. Click on start and click on run. Type cookies and click on ok. Cookies folder will come up. Click on Edit and click on select all. Delete all the files using the delete key on your keyboard.
4. Click on start and click on run. Type %temp% and click on ok. Temp folder will come up. Click on Edit and click on select all. Delete all the files using the delete key on your keyboard.

1. Click on start and click on run. Type cleanmgr and that will display the unwanted files which is stored in the computer. Check all the boxes and click on ok.

Defrag window will open. Click on Defragmentation.

1. Never open attachments from unknown sources or attachments you are not expecting.
2. Always scan diskettes, CD’s and any other removable media before using them.
3. Do not install any unapproved software on your computer.

5. Keep your system up to date with Microsoft Windows Update to protect your system from viruses and worms that attack known Windows security vulnerabilities
